On my Dreamwidth and Writing LJ, I have opened up discussion of my next serial.
The plan is for an episodic, season-based one-year run, with an option for renewal for a second year, and one long episode a week for 52 weeks.
Currently winning the running are:

"You're nice," Xaviera lied. Sprawled under Ofir, his stubby little bat wings spread like an insufficient umbrella over them, she found it hard not to giggle at him. So angry, so cute… he was like a Chihuahua, compared to the Masters she'd had.
"Nice, yeah?" He stroked her hair inexpertly. "You didn't cry. I liked that."
"You were nice about it." That much wasn't a lie. He wasn't attentive, but he was gentle.

Jamian buttoned his tux shirt over the growing roundness of his belly, thinking about Kai, stretched like she'd pop, and Shahin, swathed in lace and velvet. He didn't think about how close to the end of the year they were - barely two months left. By the time he was swelling up with pregnancy, Ty would be gone.
"You'll be gorgeous. I'll look like a beached whale, I did last time."

For at least the third time that evening, Ty wished for the ability to read emotions. Not just theirs, but Jamian's; his lover was looking at him with a strange expression. But there were bigger matters at hand. He looked at Ofir. It wasn't really the little shit's fault that he was a little shit, but he'd have to outgrow it eventually. "You owe me for what you did to my Kept today. Do you argue that?"

Friday Afternoon, Second Friday in April, 2000
Shahin needed some time alone with Emrys. She needed to talk about Xaviera, about what they were doing to do. Her visions, the girl's behavior… they weren't helping her. They weren't teaching her independence. All she was doing was aping the things they told her to do without, Sheen was fairly certain, understanding them in any way. It wasn't doing her much good, and it wasn't doing them much good. Now that she was pregnant… well, it was easier and easier for her to regress. If they didn't do something soon, Sheen was worried they'd have a little doll on their hands and nothing more.
But getting time alone was tricky. Emrys and Xav, they had plenty of time while she was at magic class. But she and Emrys had almost no time at all alone - another reason they had to talk. She had not planned on having a threesome when they began this relationship, and didn't want to go forward that way.

They hadn't had much of a chance to talk, Thursday night, and when they had, she and Conrad had lay in bed not saying anything, anyway. She wasn't sure where to start, and "I'm sorry" seemed so horribly inadequate.
She couldn't put off talking forever, though, so she slunk home after classes and sat on the bed, not quite looking at him.
It might be inadequate, but it was at least a starting point. "I'm sorry." He didn't say anything at first, so she kept taking. "I don't understand people. I thought I was starting to, but it turned out to be … just believing the lies they were giving me. And every time I try, every time I try to do something good, I end up getting you hurt. I'm sorry."
"Kaia…" Conrad's voice was choked. "Please… just shut up, okay?"

The PE teacher sat down on the desk with a thump. "I think sometimes we err too much on the side of 'realism.' Sure, out in the world there are people who will challenge you for looking at their Kept wrong… Mike and I have both dealt with a few of them. But there are also people who will challenge you if they think you don't deserve your Kept."
"Luke, is this necessary?" Regine's voice and the tiny leak of emotions from her suggested anything but.

The mouse-girl squeaked incoherently, panic quickly taking her over. The only thing clear in the nervous chittering was "Not his. Not his bitch anymore."

Bonus Story: Blending In
Early October, Year 5 of the Addergoole School
Finnegan was getting very good at being invisible. It didn't take much, around the Thornes; they weren't like he'd heard some of the other Keepers were, more like lazy tigers. They wouldn't bite without provocation, and provoking them was generally very clear-cut.
Once he'd shown any interest in being able to cook, they let him do what he would with the kitchen. That, in itself, meant that he could cook up something, have it ready for them after their training, and avoid the uncomfortable scene in the dining hall at least a few times a week. So he cooked dinner, made himself something on the side, and watched TV while the Thornes were gone. It was, for an hour or so a day, almost like being normal.
Due to the unexpected loss of a co-writer, I will no longer be able to keep up with posting three chapters every week. I will post filler those weeks when I cannot post three chapters

Family trees and genetic charts were still swirling in Kai's head a week later. Regine had made even more of her notes available to her this week, and the results were fascinating. She wondered if Shiva and Magnolia knew they were half-sisters, or if the Thorne Girls knew they were. "Feline traits appear to be dominant," Regine had mentioned, "although we will need another generation or two to be certain. It will be interesting to see how Conrad's genes express themselves. I was not expecting the tail, considering his parentage."

Nydia was visiting Gram DJ, so Mies was playing in the back yard with Gwenfrewi, Cyan, and Eryk. They were playing Magical Flower Girls against the Giant Tiger of Doom, with Gram DJ's cat Ademion playing the role of the Giant Tiger. Ademion made a very nice Giant Tiger, although he never managed to get quite big enough.

She'd been sleeping less and less lately, woken by strange nightmares and stranger dreams. This last one, that had woken her this morning… the details were already fading, but she thought it had involved fighting at the side of Ib and a strange, lovely woman, herself wielding a long, black sword against a creature that looked like a demon.

Her Keeper set his hand protectively over her belly, eyes mild and sleepy. She leaned against him. "Hurrm. I'd say Daniel, but there's the crew issue."

Shahin lounged carefully on the bed next to Emrys, her own stomach nowhere near flat anymore. "I know Kai's trying, but she's, well, Kai." She frowned faintly. "I would have expected she would have let him go." Kai kept twisting in loops.
"He told me he wouldn't let her free him." The tension was masked in Emrys' voice, but Shahin could feel it. "To protect her from Agatha. What is she up to, anyway?"

The guards shut the doors with a resounding thud as Morgan passed her report to the secretary, a nervous, collared young Daeva who was probably Elder Light in the Dark's newest pet.

The next few weeks passed quickly. For Hell Night Caffery was the silent slave girl to Ignifer's evil wizard in the "haunted house" the crew ran in one of the corridors. Magic testing came and went, leaving her rejoicing in panida, meentik, tempero and eperu while wondering what the heck hiko, buli, quipia and kwxe were all about. She started seeing Luke for unarmed combat and Professor Fridmar for spear. Because she didn't fit clearly into any particular cy'ree or have a particular affinity for any professor, she was drafted into cy' Pelletier. Ignifer kept talking about making more changes to her wardrobe but always wound up giving her jade jewellery that matched her collar instead.

Not just the sixteen years that she now had and had once thought was as grownup as you could get, but as much as twenty or even a little older than that. His eyes glowed in the dimly lit auditorium as did the marks on his skin she could see at his cuffs and collar. Equally as unusual as those to her were his elbow-length black hair and the sharp nails, talons or claws, on his fingers - she wasn't sure which was the right word. She'd never seen anything this complex.
As caught up as she was in the grandiosity of it all, she almost missed the most important part, focusing once again on the words being spoken.

Ambrus sat at the table with Regine, still stinging from Rachel's quiet curse and trying not to fume. Regine had only made things worse by hauling him away, didn't she realize that?
Of course not. And it was disloyal of him to even think that. He couldn't stop himself, though; the table's population was dwindling as people took to the dance floor, and the conversation was dying, leaving him alone with his thoughts. And his mistress.

The situation was, to put it lightly, not ideal. Greta had been pacing the Council's mountain bunker-safehouse for an hour, pondering what they were going to do with the waif she'd collected.
The girl had no reason to trust the Shenera Endraae and, indeed, a good deal of reason to distrust them, if her tales of her family were any indication. The Council, a bunch of fatheads for the most part, would not see that, however; they would simply see that she had been tainted by the Nedetakaei that she was Kept by.

"The school, and your experiences, and all manner of things, I suspect," the professor replied vaguely. "She's an outsider, representing a larger group of Ellehemaei." Now, he set a hand on Jamian's shoulder, meeting his gaze. "I trust you'll leave her with a good impression."

The revelation of relative-hood had not made the tiny woman any more pleasant.
