Soliciting opinions for a new serial [ Moderator Control Panel ]

On my Dreamwidth and Writing LJ, I have opened up discussion of my next serial.

The plan is for an episodic, season-based one-year run, with an option for renewal for a second year, and one long episode a week for 52 weeks.

Currently winning the running are:
[*] Space Opera, possibly in my Space-accountant setting
[*] Addergoole Year 9, following the 25 students in the 9th cohort
[*] Steampunk in my Reiassan setting, possibly a magical academy.

I urge you to comment here or there on what you'd like to see in a new LTA (that's me) serial.

Cheers,

~Lyn

Interlude: Xaviera

Interlude: Xaviera

"You're nice," Xaviera lied. Sprawled under Ofir, his stubby little bat wings spread like an insufficient umbrella over them, she found it hard not to giggle at him. So angry, so cute… he was like a Chihuahua, compared to the Masters she'd had.

"Nice, yeah?" He stroked her hair inexpertly. "You didn't cry. I liked that."

"You were nice about it." That much wasn't a lie. He wasn't attentive, but he was gentle.

"Ardell wasn't, hunh?"

Chapter 186: Jamian

Chapter 186: Jamian

"Pretty soon, I'm not going to be able to do this." Jamian buttoned his tux shirt over the growing roundness of his belly, thinking about Kai, stretched like she'd pop, and Shahin, swathed in lace and velvet. He didn't think about how close to the end of the year they were - barely two months left. By the time he was swelling up with pregnancy, Ty would be gone.

"You'll be gorgeous. I'll look like a beached whale, I did last time."

Interlude: Tya

Interlude: Tya

Ty was winning. He knew it, they knew it. The Director was glaring daggers at him. His Mentor - his father - was trying to hide a smile.

For at least the third time that evening, Ty wished for the ability to read emotions. Not just theirs, but Jamian's; his lover was looking at him with a strange expression. But there were bigger matters at hand. He looked at Ofir. It wasn't really the little shit's fault that he was a little shit, but he'd have to outgrow it eventually. "You owe me for what you did to my Kept today. Do you argue that?"

Chapter 184: Shahin

Chapter 184: Shahin

Friday Afternoon, Second Friday in April, 2000

Shahin needed some time alone with Emrys. She needed to talk about Xaviera, about what they were doing to do. Her visions, the girl's behavior… they weren't helping her. They weren't teaching her independence. All she was doing was aping the things they told her to do without, Sheen was fairly certain, understanding them in any way. It wasn't doing her much good, and it wasn't doing them much good. Now that she was pregnant… well, it was easier and easier for her to regress. If they didn't do something soon, Sheen was worried they'd have a little doll on their hands and nothing more.

But getting time alone was tricky. Emrys and Xav, they had plenty of time while she was at magic class. But she and Emrys had almost no time at all alone - another reason they had to talk. She had not planned on having a threesome when they began this relationship, and didn't want to go forward that way.

Chapter 185: Kailani

Chapter 185: Kailani

They hadn't had much of a chance to talk, Thursday night, and when they had, she and Conrad had lay in bed not saying anything, anyway. She wasn't sure where to start, and "I'm sorry" seemed so horribly inadequate.

She couldn't put off talking forever, though, so she slunk home after classes and sat on the bed, not quite looking at him.

It might be inadequate, but it was at least a starting point. "I'm sorry." He didn't say anything at first, so she kept taking. "I don't understand people. I thought I was starting to, but it turned out to be … just believing the lies they were giving me. And every time I try, every time I try to do something good, I end up getting you hurt. I'm sorry."

"Kaia…" Conrad's voice was choked. "Please… just shut up, okay?"

Chapter 183c: Jamian

"He talked to her! When I told him not to! When I told her not to." Ofir's protests, too, were losing steam. He glanced up at Professor Valerian, found her frowning, and looked back to Luke.

The PE teacher sat down on the desk with a thump. "I think sometimes we err too much on the side of 'realism.' Sure, out in the world there are people who will challenge you for looking at their Kept wrong… Mike and I have both dealt with a few of them. But there are also people who will challenge you if they think you don't deserve your Kept."

"Luke, is this necessary?" Regine's voice and the tiny leak of emotions from her suggested anything but.

Chapter 183b: Jamian

"Nobody's killing anybody." Luke stepped in between the three of them, a wing-tip on Kendra, a hand on Ofir, a hand on Jamian. "Break it up, you three. Now, one at a time, what happened. Kendra?"

The mouse-girl squeaked incoherently, panic quickly taking her over. The only thing clear in the nervous chittering was "Not his. Not his bitch anymore."

All good things must end: how would you like to see an epilologue?

As some of you may know, this story of Addergoole will be reaching its end at the finish of Book Thirteen. It's been a long, fun run, but it's time for something new.

In the interest of giving this story the most satisfying send-off possible, I hereby ask you: What, if anything, would you like to see in an epilogue?

X posted on the forums.

Bonus Story: Blending In

Bonus Story: Blending In

Early October, Year 5 of the Addergoole School

Finnegan was getting very good at being invisible. It didn't take much, around the Thornes; they weren't like he'd heard some of the other Keepers were, more like lazy tigers. They wouldn't bite without provocation, and provoking them was generally very clear-cut.

Once he'd shown any interest in being able to cook, they let him do what he would with the kitchen. That, in itself, meant that he could cook up something, have it ready for them after their training, and avoid the uncomfortable scene in the dining hall at least a few times a week. So he cooked dinner, made himself something on the side, and watched TV while the Thornes were gone. It was, for an hour or so a day, almost like being normal.

Due to the unexpected loss of a co-writer, I will no longer be able to keep up with posting three chapters every week. I will post filler those weeks when I cannot post three chapters

~Lyn

Want to come?" Jamian didn't expect Ty to say yes. Be careful in there, okay? If you're not back by dinner time, I'm going to have to come looking for you."

I get the boy, I get the baby, we can get out of here at the end of the year together. And the little snip gets a lesson in friendship and who not to trust."

Boy, although he was an Adult now, with his Name and his weapons and, like his brother, his mission.

He bowed low over Shahin's hand, the scales running down his neck and back glittering dangerously. She half-expected him, even now, to bite her. "With your blessing?"

Regine had made even more of her notes available to her this week, and the results were fascinating. She wondered if Shiva and Magnolia knew they were half-sisters, or if the Thorne Girls knew they were. "Feline traits appear to be dominant," Regine had mentioned, "although we will need another generation or two to be certain. It will be interesting to see how Conrad's genes express themselves. I was not expecting the tail, considering his parentage."

Ademion made a very nice Giant Tiger, although he never managed to get quite big enough.

Chapter Bonus Story - From Addergoole to Addergoole

Bonus Story - From Addergoole to Addergoole

"I've been wondering, Professor. Why Addergoole?"

It wasn't the primary thing on her mind, of course. They were studying an array of Change descriptions and, of apparently more interest to her Mentor, "inherent non-Working abilities," something that Kai hadn't really been aware existed.

Chapter 178: Shahin

Chapter 178: Shahin
You could say I'm a little bit crazy
You could call me insane
Walkin' 'round with all these whispers
Runnin' 'round here in my brain
I just can't help but hear 'em
Man, I can't avoid it

The first Sunday in April

Shahin lay in bed, once again between her husband and their Kept, idly stroking the scales on the back of Xaviera's neck while the girl slept. She'd been sleeping less and less lately, woken by strange nightmares and stranger dreams. This last one, that had woken her this morning… the details were already fading, but she thought it had involved fighting at the side of Ib and a strange, lovely woman, herself wielding a long, black sword against a creature that looked like a demon.

This week on #Addergoole: a teaser

She needed to get out. She knew she’d die here.

“The visions,” Shahin gasped. “They… they’re back.”

Back with a vengeance. What will they do to Shahin? What will she see?

What will Kai see? What will she learn?

“You still haven’t Changed, then? I thought that perhaps you were hiding it.”

What will she do about her Change? What will Jamian learn about his? What will Manira reveal?

“You want to spend more time talking?”

What will Jamian reveal? Stay tuned for this and more in this week's Addergoole!

Bonus Story: Hoppy Easter

Bonus Story: Hoppy Easter

Easter, 2012

It had been their private joke since their first Easter together, a joke that they initiated their children into early on: Aelgifu was their family's private Easter Bunny (Cecily was the first to draw said iconic character for school with horns, causing an interesting and uncomfortable parent-teacher conference until they realized this particular teacher, at least, was Faded. After that, they made sure to request her for all their kids' kindergarten years).

Chapter 177 (again): Jamian

Chapter 177b: Jamian
I'm beautiful in my way
'Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track, baby
I was born this way

"You've been spending a lot of time with Manira lately."

Jamian jumped nervously, glad that his Keeper wasn't a mind-reader. "I… uh… what?" he stammered, twisting to look at Ty. "Well, she's crew. And cy'ree. And Cohort," he pointed out, hurrying to cover. Emotions, emotions… Ty was amused. Okay, that was a good one.

"But not your lover, right?"

"No, no, she's a little…"

Chapter 176: Kailani
Don't move
Don't talk out of time
Don't think
Don't worry
Everything's just fine
Just fine

Last week in March, 2000

There were papers everywhere. Kai had taken to sitting on the floor to work on her homework and projects, since it gave her more floor space in which to spread out, and she was leaning against the bed, working on her math homework while contemplating mind control.

"You couldn't mention it to me without pain when you were first Kept, is it still the same?" she asked Conrad over her shoulder.

"Mention which?"

Chapter 177: Ba'al

Chapter177: Ba'al
Oh, I just gotta know
If you're really there and you really care
'Cause baby I'm not
F-F-F-Foolin'

First Weekend of April, 2000

"Just think." Ba'al leaned back in the grass, letting the sun warm him. "We've been here eight months already. It doesn't seem that long." He folded his hands over his chest and regarded the group over the tips of his fingers. "So… Who?"

"Speak for yourself." Alepou shifted uncomfortably into a sitting position against Ataru, her heavy belly making any position look uncomfortable. "I'm pretty clear on the length of time." Her Keeper set his hand protectively over her belly, eyes mild and sleepy. She leaned against him. "Hurrm. I'd say Daniel, but there's the crew issue."

"There's ways around both of those..."

Chapter 175: Shahin

Chapter 175: Shahin
Life is the key,
what you want it to be
Release your mind
Release your mind
Open yourself to the universal truth
Free your mind
Free your mind

Second to last week in March, 2000

"How do you think Tolly is managing?" Io looked up from her book, her hand thoughtfully over her still-flattish stomach. "I mean, he's still smiling, but... not as much, you know?"

Shahin lounged carefully on the bed next to Emrys, her own stomach nowhere near flat anymore. "I know Kai's trying, but she's, well, Kai." She frowned faintly. "I would have expected she would have let him go." Kai kept twisting in loops.

"He told me he wouldn't let her free him." The tension was masked in Emrys' voice, but Shahin could feel it. "To protect her from Agatha. What is she up to, anyway?"

Prelude: Morgan

Prelude: Morgan

The Council of the Shenera Endraae had just convened its Vernal Equinox session when Morgan arrived.

The three elders of the Council sat at their curved table, a head above the council's junior agents; with Morgan, five of the nine agents were in attendance. The guards shut the doors with a resounding thud as Morgan passed her report to the secretary, a nervous, collared young Daeva who was probably Elder Light in the Dark's newest pet.

"What do you have for us, jæ'Behold The Sprawl?"
